  • Topic: Resin-bonded FDPs for single tooth replacement - A true alternative to implants?
  • Date: April 18th - 8am - 12:00pm
  • Total CE Offered: 4 Hours

Course Description:

Resin-bonded fixed dental prostheses (RBFDPs, so-called Maryland bridges) with two metal retainer wings have been introduced over 30 years ago for a minimal invasive replacement of missing teeth.

However RBFDPs are still not considered a comparable treatment modality to implants by most of the dentists. Cantilevered anterior RBFDPs with a single ceramic retainer wing were introduced 20 years ago.

They provide better esthetics and are less invasive than two-retainer RBFDPs. In the meantime excellent long-term data of this minimal invasive treatment option are available. Similar concepts are now also implemented for the replacement of posterior teeth that show promising medium-term outcomes comparable to single tooth implants.

This lecture summarizes when zirconia ceramic RBFDPs present a favorable, minimally invasive and less costly treatment alternative to single tooth implants.

Course Info:

  • Topic: A new paradigm for direct restorations, using UHMWPE fiber.
  • Date: April 17th - 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
  • Total CE Offered: 2 Hours

Course Description:

For many dentists, restorative choices for an individual tooth are driven by insurance forces and traditional dental school teaching. It is central to Biomimetic, tooth-preserving principles that outdated ideas must be set aside to allow for modern, scientifically proven advances. By incorporating Biomimetic Principles, with the use of composite resin and strategically laminated UHMWPE fiber, we can create a new class of direct restoration that better manages tensile and Poisson’s forces, resists and deflects cracks and lessen the effects of polymerization shrinkage on remaining tooth structure. This session will demonstrate clinical techniques and applications of UHMWPE fiber lamination.

Learning objectives for this session include:

  • - Explain the advantages that UHMWPE lamination can convey to the restored tooth.
  • - Understanding the basic clinical technique to successfully laminate UHMWPE fiber.
  • - Demonstrate clinical situations that benefit from the use of UHMWPE fiber lamination.

Doctor's Bio

Dr. Chyz earned his D.D.S. degree in 1983 from the University of Michigan. Dr. Chyz maintains a general practice, with an emphasis on biomimetic dentistry, in downtown Seattle.

Dr. Chyz has been involved in various study clubs over the years and lectures on direct restorative dentistry and cracked teeth. He has consulted with 3M on many products, but most notably on the development of Filtek Supreme. He serves as an unpaid consultant to Ribbond. Finally, Dr. Chyz first laminated Ribbond to internal tooth structure in 1999 – giving him a unique, long-term perspective on the value of fiber lamination to augment direct restorations.

Doctor's Bio

David Gerdolle was born in Epinal (France) in May 1970, and graduated from the Dental University of Nancy (1993). He has then achieved a number of Postgraduate Diplomas from the Universities of Paris and Gothenburg, in Oral and Osteo-articular Biology, Implantology, Prosthodontics and Adhesive Dentistry.

David has been a member of the teaching staff of the University of Nancy between 1993 and 2005, and he is running a private practice in Vevey-Montreux (CH) since 2006. His practice is dedicated to conservative and minimal invasive dentistry. David is currently directing a Postgraduate Certificate at the University of Paris (f), and is also involved in research programs on resin composites in the University of Nancy (F).

He is lecturing world while in seminars and congresses, he is also giving hands-on courses and performing live demonstrations on patients in the field of adhesive and minimally invasive dentistry. As an author or co-author, David has published widely in scientific national and international journals on this topic.

Course Info:

  • Topic: Fundamentals of Recreating the Tooth with Adhesive Technology
  • Date: April 18th - 2:030 pm - 4:00 pm
  • Total CE Offered: 2 Hours

Course Description:

In this presentation, we will review the essentials of successful reconstruction of tooth with adhesive technology. Whether direct or indirect restoration is indicated, there are factors that increase the chance of success for a bonded restoration.

Course Info:

  • Topic: Improving the Biomimetic Protocol
  • Date: April 18th - 4:30pm - 5:30pm
  • Total CE Offered: 1 Hour

Course Description:

Two improvements to the standard biomimetic protocol are described. Conservation of tooth structure is enhanced by the use of silver diamine fluoride/ potassium iodide in what is now being called the SMART technique.

Gap-free dentin replacement is easily accomplished by use of a revolutionary bulk fill composite which shrinks toward the tooth.

Doctor's Bio

Raymond L. Bertolotti received his D.D.S. degree from the University of California, San Francisco, after working as a Ph.D. metallurgical and ceramic engineer at Sandia National Laboratories.

Course Info:

  • Topic:CAD/CAM Dentistry- What you don’t see can bite you!
  • Date: April 17th - 4:00pm - 5:00pm
  • Total CE Offered: 1 Hour

Course Description:

Restorative Dentistry today is driven by CAD/CAM generated restorations. Dentists are using the old-style restorative preparation guidelines to prepare teeth for CAD/CAM not being aware that the preparations are incompatible with the algorithms of the CAD/CAM software.

This incompatibility produces poorly fitting restorations doomed to failure and the dentist is totally unaware of this fatal flaw.

This program will demonstrate those algorithms and guide the dentist in creating higher quality restorations.
