Join Us in Helping Khery Owens Find a Life-Saving Kidney Donor

At the Academy of Biomimetic Dentistry (ABD), our community has always believed in lifting one another up—especially when compassion and unity have the power to change a life. Today, we share a heartfelt and personal request from our President, Dr. Saul Pressner, on behalf of someone very special to him and his family.

Khery Owens, the daughter of Dr. Pressner’s close friends, is a loving and joyful young woman whose vibrant spirit shines through everything she does. She has a big heart, a bright sense of humor, and a natural ability to connect with people. Khery loves traveling, bowling, doing puzzles, and spending time on her iPad. She is a big fan of Disney and the Mario Brothers, and whenever music plays, she lights up—dancing and singing with so much enthusiasm that her joy becomes contagious.

Khery is remarkably creative as well. She enjoys sewing and often adds her own handmade accessories to clothing, making each piece uniquely hers. She is deeply social and has been active in her church community, proudly serving as an acolyte and helping light candles during services. Although Khery was diagnosed with autism, she approaches every day with curiosity, creativity, and an inspiring joy for life.

Why We’re Sharing Khery’s Story

A few years ago, Khery was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. Her condition has progressed quickly, and she is now being evaluated to begin dialysis. To give Khery the chance to continue living the full, independent, and active life she loves, her family is searching for a living kidney donor.

A kidney transplant would allow Khery to keep traveling, maintaining friendships, participating in her community, and expressing the creativity that shapes her daily life. Most importantly, it would help her remain the vibrant, loving person she has always been. Khery has so much ahead of her, and with a kidney, she can continue to be the bright light and blessing she is to everyone around her.

From Dr. Pressner:
“Khery Owens is the daughter of dear friends of mine, and she is in need of a kidney donation. Her dad Al was a college and dental school classmate of mine.”

How the Donation Process Works

Khery’s family is working with the National Kidney Registry (NKR), a trusted organization known for its advanced matching system and donor support programs.

A direct match is not required. Through the NKR’s paired donation program, someone can donate a kidney on Khery’s behalf. Their donation may help another person with an incompatible donor, while Khery receives a compatible kidney from someone else in the network. This system increases transplant opportunities and leads to better outcomes nationwide.

The NKR provides:

  • Coverage for all donation-related medical expenses

  • Donor Shield protections, including lost wages, travel support, and lodging

  • Nearly 100 participating transplant centers across the U.S.

  • The ability to donate locally, even if you live far from Khery

  • A confidential, no-obligation inquiry process for anyone wishing to learn more

How You Can Make a Difference

Even if you cannot donate, you can still play a powerful role in helping Khery. Simply sharing her story widens the circle of awareness and increases the chances of finding the donor who could change her life. A single share may reach the person who feels called to help.

You can visit Khery’s National Kidney Registry page to learn more about her story, share it with others, or take the first step in the donor screening process.

Every share is an act of hope. It’s like tossing a life preserver to someone in need—offering help even if you cannot jump into the water yourself.

On behalf of ABD, Dr. Saul Pressner, and Khery’s family, thank you for your compassion, your willingness to spread the word, and your support in this urgent and meaningful search. Together, as a caring community, we can help Khery continue to shine brightly for years to come.
